First Museum of Modern Art in Ukraine by Sergei Tsypko
This museum was founded by Sergei Tsypko, businessman, jeweller and art-sponsor in 2005. It was the first such private museum in Ukraine. Its founder spent 20 years in collecting the works of famous and unknown names. The collection numbers more than 4 500 exhibits from 1930-ies to our days, it represents different schools and styles from all regions of Ukraine. Here one can see the works of underground artists of 1960-1970-ies when Soviet ideology prohibited everything that was not in the full concept of socialist realism. Here are also exhibition halls for temporary or personal displays. The museum plays an important role in the popularization of the new tendencies in arts, it supports the young talents, promotes Ukrainian modernists abroad. There is a functioning library; a lecture hall is used for seminars, round-table discussions, conferences with invited Ukrainian and foreign art-scholars, artists and gallery organizers.
